invest in the long-term futures of refugee families

HANAN Wisconsin's Advancement programs invest in the long-term futures of refugee families, equipping adults with language skills, supporting children in school, and opening doors to higher education for the next generation of leaders.

The Goal was never just Survival…

Resettlement is a process. Food on the table and legal status secured forms the foundation. The question that follows is just as important: What does the future look like?

For refugee families, the answer is almost always education. A parent confident in English can advocate for her children and pursue real employment. A student with the right support thrives instead of falls behind. A young woman with a scholarship becomes a leader in her own right.

HANAN Wisconsin's Advancement programs walk with families through the years that follow resettlement, because the goal was always beyond survival: a life of purpose, and possibility.

HANAN Wisconsin’s Advancement Programs

Under Advancement, HANAN Wisconsin operates two core programs designed to build the skills, confidence, and opportunities refugee families need to achieve lasting self-sufficiency. Education with HANAN provides ESL and adult education programs, workplace English training, and one-on-one academic support for K–8 students, meeting learners where they are and equipping them with the tools to succeed. The Dr. Ahmad Nasef Scholarship honors the legacy of a founding member of HANAN Wisconsin by investing directly in the educational futures of refugee and immigrant students, continuing his lifelong commitment to uplifting others through compassion and opportunity.

Together, these programs represent HANAN Wisconsin's commitment to the long game: not just helping families survive resettlement, but empowering them to shape their own futures.

When a refugee learns to speak up, they learn to move forward.
